Optimizing Tutorial - {NcS}~Rm (Ryan Mauldin) - visit us at www.clan-necrosis.com - the main purpose in optimization is to limit the amount of vertices or triangle count in your board to only what is needed. To the smallest number possible, while still maintaining the original shape of the board in every aspect that the creator had originally intended.

You can use these models freely as stair-wells in castles or whatever you have in mind. This video file is rather large, however It needed to be long enough for you to see what I was doing with all the verts, since the framerate is a little lagged out at times - 10FPS. Optimizing is one of those shadey areas of mapping no-one bothers to go into detail about so I hope you see how to get started. It can mean the difference between major lag and no lag in any board. For those without $700 graphics cards it can mean the difference in enjoying a board or not. Everyone likes good looking boards, but they come at a price. The tradeoff of high render times due to the graphics card drawing each individual face, or just drawing one big face and still having all the technical detail in limited areas.
